★ The surprising truth about what motivates us
The Open Source world has known this for years.
I like to draw things and write code
The Open Source world has known this for years.
A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to give my blog a much needed overhaul (an event that seems to be becoming a somewhat annual occurrence). At the time I saw two possibilities for its successor: Tumblr or another bespoke platform.
I just put up an iPhone optimised version of this blog at iphone.nathanhoad.net. For this early version I have only included basic post reading but intend on eventually including all of the functionality of the full site.
Internet Explorer is a horrid browser.
If you don't know what Keyboard Cat is then just watch these videos and laugh. It's that simple.
After quite a long while I have finally finished my new blog
. My old blog was powered by an aging PHP/MySQL system that I wrote almost 2 years ago. The shiny new system is built on top of the Ruby on Rails framework.
Jeff Atwood has another Insightful post over at Coding Horror. His article talks about some peoples' tendency to prefer suffering through tedius but familiar processes than to take a timeout to learn something better. I feel like I have heard this story a million times but nothing analogises the concept better than 'Sharpening the Saw':
Ben and Justine Rugers (of XSight) have uploaded their slideshow of some of their photos from our big day ![]()
My recent lack of posts has been for a good reason. In the past month Kristen and I had been finalising everything for our wedding
I am thrilled to say that, as of yesterday at around 3:15pm, I can now call Kristen my wife.
The world has lost one of the greatest writers of all time. Michael Crichton sadly passed away on Tuesday after a difficult battle with cancer. Crichton's books were enjoyed by everyone and will continue to entertain countless generations to come.
It's about 43 days until Kristen and I get married. Time is flying. We had our engagement shoot back on the 12th with Ben Rugers and have just got some of them back. Ben did an awesome job; The photos came out great
.
I got a brand new 16GB iPhone this afternoon
(this message was posted from the iPhone).
Nigel McBryde, a graphic designer friend of mine, has thrown his new design blog up on the net.
I just read a very good article over on Coding Horror that included a rather insightful anecdote (originally from the book 'Art & Fear' by David Bayles and Ted Orland).
Yesterday I got a slight hair trim... and by hair trim I mean shave, and by slight I mean complete. This year I decided to participate in the Worlds Greatest Shave so at high noon yesterday I marched on down to the Public Shave Event on Little Cribb St and had my head shaved. I always wondered what I would look like with a shaved head
.
Kristen and I took a trip to Southbank last Thursday and saw The Phantom of the Opera for Valentines Day. For a special treat we had decided to get VIP tickets which gave us seats in the middle of the third row
. Although we had heard all of the songs countless times before, nothing compares to seeing them performed live, right in front of you.
Today at around 3:30pm I officially became a qualified Interaction Designer
. I graduated from a Bachelor of Information Technology (in the field of Interaction Design) from the University of Queensland. The idea of graduating from university doesn't really hit you until you don the robe and trencher. Here is me getting my complimentary empty blue cylinder from the Chancellor of UQ (I got my actual testamur about 43 seconds later after walking to the back of the hall).
